MrWalls Drywall & Painting has been working in Springfield homes since 2001. We're based in Chicopee, right next door, so when you call, we're not driving an hour to get there. If you searched "drywall contractor Springfield MA" or "drywall repair near me," you want flat walls, tight ceilings, and repairs that disappear after paint. That's what we've done here for 25 years.

Springfield is one of the oldest cities in Western Massachusetts. That means a huge mix of housing stock, triple-deckers in the McKnight and Pine Point neighborhoods, brick colonials in Forest Park, older Victorians in the Upper Hill, and newer construction in Sixteen Acres. Every one of those home types has its own wall problems.
Common drywall repairs we handle across Springfield:
Every repair gets solid backing, proper taping where needed, and compound feathered out wide so the patch blends flush. The goal is always the same: you shouldn't be able to find it after paint.
A lot of Springfield's older homes, especially in Forest Park, the Upper Hill, and along Sumner Ave, still have original horsehair plaster walls and ceilings. If you knock on your wall and it sounds solid but feels hard as concrete, that's plaster, not drywall.
Plaster Repair is different from drywall repair. You can't just skim over a plaster crack and expect it to hold, the base needs to be stable first. We re-secure loose sections back to the lath, use the right materials to bridge cracks properly, and finish it so the repair blends with the surrounding surface. If the plaster is too far gone, we'll laminate 1/4" drywall directly over it, a permanent fix that eliminates future cracking without a full gut.
Springfield winters are hard on roofs. Ice dams are the number one cause of ceiling damage from water we see every spring, water backs up under shingles, works through the roof deck, and shows up as a brown stain or soft spot in your ceiling weeks later.
Don't paint over it. If the drywall is wet or soft, sealing paint over it just traps moisture. The stain comes back, usually worse. Our process:
Water damage is frequently covered by homeowner's insurance. We can work alongside your adjuster if needed.
Springfield has a lot of homes built between the 1950s and 1980s, which means a lot of popcorn ceilings. Some are in decent shape and just need a patch blended in. Others are stained, cracked, and past the point of repair.
For popcorn ceiling removal, we wet-scrape to contain the mess, then skim coat the ceiling smooth and prep it for paint. If the texture has been painted over, removal gets more complicated, painted popcorn often tears the drywall paper underneath. We'll look at the ceiling and tell you the most practical path: careful removal, skim over stable texture, or overlay new drywall.
One note: homes built before 1980 may have asbestos in the texture. We always recommend testing before major scraping. We can also work safely around it with overlay options.
Finishing a basement in Sixteen Acres, remodeling a kitchen in East Forest Park, or adding a room in Indian Orchard, we hang and finish start to finish. We plan board layout to minimize butt joints, use the right thickness for each application, and fasten correctly so you're not dealing with nail pops six months later.
Drywall Finishing is where the job wins or loses. We tape, coat, feather, and sand with paint in mind. Rooms with direct sun or walls getting satin or semi-gloss paint get a Level 5 drywall finish so nothing shows through. We check everything under strong raking light before we call it done.
Springfield has one of the largest rental markets in Western Massachusetts. Tenant turnover means wall damage, holes from anchors, door swing damage, scuff-throughs on corners, ceiling stains. We work with landlords and property managers to get units patched, finished, and paint-ready fast.
Send photos, tell us your timeline, and we'll give you a clear plan. No surprises.
We work across all of Springfield, including:
We're also the go-to crew for nearby towns: Chicopee, West Springfield, Holyoke, Longmeadow, East Longmeadow, Agawam, and Ludlow.
If you want paint included, we take the job from drywall to final coat so you're not coordinating two contractors.
Do you repair plaster walls, not just drywall? Yes. Springfield has a lot of plaster homes, especially in Forest Park and the older neighborhoods. We know the difference and handle both correctly.
Will the patch show after painting? Not if it's done right. We feather wide and flat, prime correctly, and the repair disappears. A rushed patch shows, ours don't.
Do you work on rental properties and multi-units? Yes. We work with Springfield landlords regularly. Fast turnarounds, clean results, paint-ready finish.
Do you handle insurance water damage claims? Yes. We can work with your insurance adjuster directly on water damage repairs.
Can you match popcorn ceiling texture? Yes in most cases. Texture matching depends on the existing pattern and paint buildup. We blend beyond the patch so it reads as one surface.
Do you take small jobs? Yes. A single crack or a doorknob hole gets the same attention as a bigger project.
Send a few photos of what you're dealing with and tell us your neighborhood and timeline. We'll give you a straight answer on what it needs.
